Community

Community involvement
BrightHouse stores are located in high streets across the UK. We endeavour to be “a good neighbour” in positively exercising our responsibilities towards the wider community.

A principal focus of our community involvement activities addresses education and social inclusion issues that face adults living in less privileged communities. Through our relationship with Learndirect, we are exploring the best way to drive our “making reading easier” campaign, which targets adult literacy needs.

BrightHouse is a substantial corporate sponsor of the Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity. This children’s charity exists to grant the wishes of terminally and seriously ill children and their families. Across the country, BrightHouse colleagues have energetically led or participated in fundraising events.

We are also a supporter and active participant in Retail Trust fundraising. Retail Trust is a national charity, which offers a confidential helpline, financial assistance and other practical help and support. It serves employees, former employees (and families) of the UK retail industry.

Additionally, BrightHouse is a member of Business in the Community, an organisation that actively encourages companies to continually improve the impact they have on society and the environment.

Fair treatment of customers
Our customers expect that we will deliver good quality and safe products that meet all safety requirements and have been manufactured to high ethical standards. BrightHouse aims to deal honestly with customers and suppliers, securing their loyalty and trust by providing outstanding choice, value and service.

Responsible lender
We aim to deliver a service to our customers that is friendly and flexible and undertake to act in a responsible manner, avoiding lending more than a customer can afford. Customers build a history of payments and we lend against that profile. We help customers rebuild impaired credit histories.

We train sales advisors to understand an individual customer’s financial capability and the consequential affordability of our products. Our store colleagues are not paid commission on new sales.

BrightHouse provides support to the Citizens Advice Bureau, which offers a range of coaching and training for financial advisors and debt counsellors. The ready availability of competent independent financial advice, free of charge, is a valued service in many local communities. The Citizens Advice Bureau is an important reference channel in this context.

Transparency in all our dealings
We will ensure clear and consistent communication with all our stakeholders and honour our promises. We are an accredited partner of the Plain English Campaign and are committed to ensuring that our documents use language that is simple and understandable for our customers.
