We want each and every one of our staff to thrive. So we're committed to finding, keeping and developing the right talent. We recognise that 'the right talent' comes in different guises, so we celebrate and actively encourage diversity in our workplace. It's important that every individual feels part of an inclusive environment in which they are heard, valued and respected. It all begins with induction. To help acclimatise to a new workplace and a new team, every new starter gets an induction programme shaped towards their individual development needs. The idea is to give them the best chance to do well in their role and to highlight what skills might be needed to develop them in the future. To this end, we encourage staff to take relevant qualifications to support their development and meet the needs of the business.

When it comes to training, we have set ourselves a bold target. Our 80-20 rule means that we endeavour to fill 80% of vacancies with internal recruits. So we have to ensure that our staff are given the training not only to fulfil their existing jobs, but also to move on when new opportunities at BrightHouse arise. We have a fantastic track record of promoting from within and this is a company where it is possible to progress from the shopfloor to director level.

Core modules in customer service are responsible lending, treating customers fairly and living the values of BrightHouse. Managers work with staff to set clear development goals, offering feedback and support, including a twice-a-year performance review. We offer a wide range of learning opportunities like job shadowing, one-to-one coaching, mentoring, group learning and e-learning.

Although we are looking for committed, ambitious people, we also recognise that it is important for staff to spend time with their families. So our stores trade from Monday to Saturday, meaning that everyone gets Sundays off.
